On 9 March 2022, BPER Banca joined the Net-Zero Banking Alliance, the United Nations-sponsored industry alliance that mobilises banks around the world in a commitment to align their portfolios with the goal of zero emissions by 2050, thus reinforcing the goals set by the Paris Climate Agreement.

Since it joined the NZBA, BPER Banca has defined the first decarbonisation targets of its portfolios for some priority sectors, in line with the Bank's ambitions in support of sustainable transition.

  • The first target, relating to Power Generation, aims at a 36% reduction in the emission intensity of the counterparties in the portfolio.
  • The second target, for the Oil & Gas sector, aims at a 29% reduction in BPER Banca’s financed emissions relating to companies operating in this sector.

Based on ad hoc technical-scientific scenarios and specific analyses of portfolio emissions, the definition of the 2030 targets for the two sectors underlines the Bank's commitment to promoting sustainable solutions.

The Bank will continue analysing the most relevant sectors of its portfolios and defining targets in line with its commitments to the alliance.
